Aleks & Respondus LockDown Browser
Instructors may require students to take certain ALEKS assignments in Respondus LockDown Browser, which is a secure testing browser that restricts students from accessing other applications. Respondus Monitor, a companion application for LockDown Browser, can also be required for assignments that require LockDown Browser. Respondus Monitor uses students' webcams to record a video as they complete the assignment, and flags suspicious activity for the institution or instructor to review. Installation When students begin an ALEKS assignment requiring LockDown Browser, the introduction page includes a link for students to launch LockDown Browser in order to begin, as well as a link to download LockDown Browser. *NOTE: It is not compatible with Chromebooks. **You will need to install the ALEKS version of Lockdown Browser even if you already have a different version of LockDown Browser that’s used by your school on your device. You can have multiple versions of Lockdown browser installed on your computer. There is no need to uninstall other versions. After you click on the link, locate the file (LockDownBrowserOEMSetup.exe or InstallLDBOEM.zip) in your download folder. Double-click on the installer file and complete the installation. Now return to the assignment page and click on LaunchDown Browser. The popup below will appear, click on Open LockDown Browser OEM if you’re using Chrome or select LockDown Browser OEM and click on Open link if you’re using Firefox. Note: if you take too long to click on the button to open LockDown Browser, the assignment page will say that LockDown Browser is not installed as seen in the pictures below, ignore the message and click on the button to open LockDown Browser. Pearson & Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor
Some math courses that use Pearson, also require you to use Respondus LockDown Browser. This version of LockDown Browser is different than the Browser Version. When your instructor locks down a test or quiz, you cannot open other browser windows or other applications while you are doing the assignment. For example, you cannot use a desktop calculator or open a different browser. Question help is not available during a locked-down test or quiz. You need to install the Pearson LockDown Browser to take a locked-down test or quiz on your PC or laptop. You cannot do locked-down assignments on your tablet, Chromebook, or smartphone. Install the Pearson LockDown Browser Use the Pearson Browser Check to install the latest version of LockDown Browser. If you already installed an older version, you are prompted to update when you open a locked-down assignment. When you take a locked-down test or quiz, select View a test page on the "Are you ready to start?" page. If you see a success message, you already installed the latest LockDown Browser. If the page is blank or you see an error message, select Download Pearson LockDown Browser and install it. After you install LockDown Browser, select Start Test. Take a Locked-down Test or Quiz Open the test or quiz from your Pearson Course Home page or the Homework and Tests page. Install LockDown Browser, if necessary. If the test or quiz includes automated proctoring, install the proctoring application, if necessary, and set up monitoring. Take the test or quiz, as usual. If available, the calculator icon in the toolbar opens LockDown Browser's built-in calculator. After you submit your test or quiz, a message tells you that your locked-down session has ended. Select OK to continue.

Setting up Respondus LockDown Browser/Monitor in Pearson Exams
This can be done when you create an exam or by editing the exam settings. Follow the simple steps below to add LockDown Browser and Monitor requirement to an existing exam. Step 1: Go to Assignment Manager and find the exam or test for which you intend to require proctoring. Choose Edit from the Action menu. Step 2: On the Edit Quiz page, go to Choose Settings. Under the Access Control section, choose the option for LockDown Browser and Proctoring. (Note that students are NOT able to use iPad for proctored Pearson MyLab exams.) Select the option for the use of calculator. Then Save, or Save & Assign. Accessing the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard After you enable Respondus Monitor for exams, you are able to adjust the settings and view the recordings on the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard. The dashboard can be accessed in Assignment Manager, under More Tools. On the dashboard, note that only exams that require Respondus Monitor are listed. Click on the Advanced Settings link, and you are able to view and adjust the proctoring settings. To view student recordings, go to the Video Review link.

Enabling Respondus LockDown Browser with Pearson
Respondus LockDown Browser is integrated with Pearson MyLab. LockDown Browser and Monitor can be enabled under Course Settings on the MyLab site. Once enabled, you can require LockDown Browser and Monitor for specific exams. This is a two-step process: Enable LockDown Browser and Monitor in the course on the Pearson MyLab site. Adjust the settings for the exams you intend to require for LockDown Browser and Monitor. Enabling LockDown Brower and Monitor in your course Before you can use Respondus Monitor for your Pearson MyLab course, you will need to find the license code in the course on Blackboard. You will then enter the code on Pearson MyLab course site during the setup. The license code is unique to each instructor. To find the code, do the following: Step 1: Go to your course on Blackboard, then Course Management > Course Tools > Respondus LockDown Browser. Step 2: Click on the Other Systems tab. You will see a code under the Pearson MyLab section. Copy the code. To continue setting up Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor, do the following: Step 1: Go to the Course Settings in MyLab, then scroll down and find Learning Aids and Test Options. Click Edit. Step 2: Check the LockDown Browser option if you want to use the LockDown Browser only, and “Use automated proctoring in this course” if you also want to record students screen activities and testing behaviors. Make sure you choose “Respondus Monitor Proctoring” as the proctoring partner. Step 3: Click on the link “Complete the Respondus Monitor Proctoring license setup”. This will open a pop-up window asking you to enter the Respondus Monitor license. Paste the code you find in the Blackboard course in the previous step. Then click Make Available. Don’t forget to Save the change. You have successfully enabled Respondus Monitor in your MyLab course. In the Course Settings, you can see under Learning Aids and Test Options, both LockDown Browser and Monitor are being used.

Use Respondus LockDown Browser on an iPad
Can an iPad be used to take a LockDown Browser exam? The iPad Edition of "LockDown Browser" available from the Apple App Store enables a student to use an iPad to take exams that require LockDown Browser. However, your instructor must first select a setting that permits the use of iPads for the exam. Follow these steps to take an exam with the iPad Edition of LockDown Browser. 1. Download and install the "LockDown Browser" app from the Apple App Store to the iPad. (Requires iOS 11 or higher.) 2. Launch the LockDown Browser app. The first time the app is used, you will be prompted to select your institution and server (shown below). If you later need to change the institution or server, select the settings icon on the toolbar for the LockDown Browser app. 3. Once the setup is complete, you will be directed to your institution's login page. Log in with the correct credentials, navigate to your course and quiz, and begin your exam.

Allow Student to Use an iPad for LockDown Browser
In order for a student to use an iPad on an exam requiring LockDown Browser, the instructor must first follow these steps: Login to the online course using an instructor account. Select the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard Tool, and next to the exam title, click the pull down arrow, then select "Settings." Select "Require Respondus LockDown Browser for this exam". Expand "[+] Advanced Settings" under the "LockDown Browser" section, and select "Allow students to take this exam with an iPad". Save the settings.

Your institution may use Respondus tools to administer secure assessments. About Respondus Respondus LockDown Browser prevents your access to any other materials, including internet browsers or other software, while you have an assessment open. You can’t refer to external information or copy material from these sources while you take the assessment. Install the Browser Extension You need to have Respondus LockDown Browser extension installed on your Chromebook. You will not be able to search for the app in the web store. To install the extension: 1. On your Chromebook, open the Chrome browser, locate and click on the installation link provided by your instructor. The link can also be found on the Institution Page under the "Student Online Resources" section (see below). (Note: if you are using and iPad or Windows computer, please follow the directions for those specific devices.) 2. You will automatically be redirected to the Web Store, select "Add to Chrome" to install the LockDown Browser. 3. Login to Blackboard. The LockDown Browser will start automatically when you open an exam requiring LockDown Browser.

If you haven’t downloaded the browser and try to open an assessment in a different browser, a message may appear asking you for a password. This is an indication that you have not attempted to open with the LockDown Browser.
